Selena Gomez’s account has reacted to fan theories over why they claimed she appeared to be ‘skinny’ while dating singer Justin Bieber – and it’s left a question mark over their former relationship.
The 30-year-old actress appeared to drop a sad face emoji underneath an edit on TikTok showing various clips of her cutting a ‘skinny’ frame while she was supposedly in a relationship with the chart topper.
Uploaded towards the end of last month, the reel generated a whopping 3.7million views with the Only Murders in the Building star’s comment garnering nearly 40,000 likes alone.
In the stitched clip video the creator drew out a narrative that suggested the Peaches singer preferred to date models, alluding to the fact that Selena felt under pressure to retain a smaller size because of this.
The slides began with the typed words: ‘The reason why Selena is always skinny when she dates Justin.’
Alongside the imagery, the footage was posted with the caption: ‘He rathers models..My poor baby [sic]’ and was made to a soundtrack entitled daddy issues.
The video also included a screenshot of a comment the Love You Like A Love Song singer had allegedly shared with a fan who declared that Justin had ‘messed up’ but still supported ‘Jelena’.
Indicated by the snapshot, Selena had supposedly written back: ‘No love. He’s rather models. I’m just too normal [sic].’
A blue tick appeared to confirm the true identity of the user that left the sad face comment as Selena Gomez herself, to which the original poster replied: ‘YOU DID NOT,’ alongside two crying emoji.
The interaction caused quite a stir among other fans on the app as they jumped into the comment section to share their thoughts on the back and forth.
One wrote: ‘Doesn’t matter if you change for someone girl sometimes you just can’t always live up to peoples expectations [sic].’
Another consoled the star: ‘@selenagomez is still so gorgeous literally every picture of her makes me smile.’
Some onlookers were more sceptical than others, however, as they struggled to believe the Hollywood star would engage with the allegations: ‘I don’t even believe that was her account that commented on that post and she probably thinks what sad is this is even being talked about or believed [sic’.
One TikToker backed up the doubts with: ‘She doesn’t run her account.’
Justin and Selena allegedly parted ways in 2018, the same year the award-winning musician married model wife Hailey Baldwin.
