Saweetie has finally commented on those pesky dating rumors that have followed her around all year, venting about them in her new single “DON’T SAY NOTHIN.”
Addressing the drama surrounding her love life throughout the entirety of the track, she calls out Twitter and “big mouth-ass blogs” in the intro for pushing narratives surrounding her love life before diving into the first verse.
“Why n-ggas always speakin’ on who I’m fuckin’ on?” she raps in the first verse. “He must’ve got excited when I Facetimed with notin’ on/ Them same lips that’s yappin’ be the ones I nutted on.”
Elsewhere on the new single, she spits: “That’s what I get for kissin’ on these frogs/ He got mad and told my business to the blogs/ N-gga pause, I’m appalled, need to chill out.”
In a follow-up interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Saweetie said her new track emerged from a period of venting.
“It was fun because I was just like, I was venting about all my experiences when I thought that I was dealing with a man that I can trust, and then it turns out he had a big mouth,” she said. “So it was a lot of storytelling and I just put all my experiences into one song.
“I feel like that sound is the reason why I’m here, and I never want to turn my back on what made me great. So it’s like I had to go back to my Bay roots and, honestly, I was just talking my shit, and being honest about what’s happened to me.”
Saweetie is right in saying that speculation surrounding her love life has run rampant this past year. The “Icy Girl” hitmaker was likely referring to her dramatic break-up with Quavo in 2021, which hit a fever pitch in October after the Migos rapper alluded to their relationship on the song “Messy.”
“I said ‘Caresha, please’ ’cause she too messy/ Bitch fucked my dawg behind my back but I ain’t stressin’/ You wanted the gang? You shoulda just said it, we would’ve just blessed it/ Now shit got messy,” Huncho rapped.
While he didn’t name names, many fans theorized he was either referring to Offset or Lil Baby – who many Hawkish fans thought was the faceless man in a picture Saweetie posted last December. Offset hasn’t commented, and Baby has denied numerous times that the man in the picture is him, doing so again at the end of October.
As the rumors of Baby and Saweetie continued to swirl, Quavo added fuel to the fire by tweeting out a cryptic response to all the headlines. “Ain’t trippin we can swap it out,” the Unc & Phew rapper tweeted.
Lil Baby then seemed to respond to Quavo’s comment on his new track “Stand On It” where he raps: “I don’t want your bitch, we can’t swap out/ They ain’t on shit, tell ‘em pop out.”
While Saweetie has been tight-lipped about her highly-anticipated debut Pretty Bitch Music, she recently told Rolling Stone that she will first drop a project called The Single Life, which will be a direct response to all of the aforementioned drama.
“I’m excited to share what I went through,” Saweetie said. “I think as I was making it, I was more proud to be single. Because I realized that I was growing, I realized that I was elevating. And I realized that I was becoming a better woman.”
She added: “It was definitely revolutionary. It was heartbreaking. It was honest. It was a reflection. It’s just me being Saweetie in full transparency.”
