Mary Lambert Is Married to Wyatt Paige Hermansen

Congratulations are in order for Mary Lambert and Wyatt Paige Hermansen, who tied the knot on Saturday, October 22, 2022, in Oakland, Maine, People confirmed. The “Same Love” singer and Hermansen, who uses they/them pronouns, said “I do” in an outdoor ceremony at Enchanted Gables before celebrating at a rustic barn reception.

The couple’s overall vision was for an autumn-inspired event. “It feels like the perfect mix of, ‘We’re on a farm, but we’re also in our nice shoes,’” Lambert told People. “We didn’t want it to look like anybody else’s wedding. We really want it to be us. We wanted to be the wedding that people look at and say, ‘I want to do that.'”

Their ceremony was filled with personal touches. The duo wrote their own vows and recited them in front of 150 guests, People reported. “With both of us being writers, and obviously Mary being an artist and a poet and someone who expresses herself creatively, it was really important for us to have room to say our own vows,” Hermansen explained. They had their friend Leslie Yingling officiate the ceremony and had other friends perform songs during the special occasion.

The Grammy-nominated singer walked down the aisle in a glittering off-the-shoulder A-line gown by Essense of Australia. According to People, the bride chose the ensemble at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City, and Say Yes to the Dress will broadcast her wedding dress shopping journey. Hermansen sported a burnt orange suit from Bindle & Keep, which specifically caters to gender-nonconforming clients. “It was so amazing to go through the whole fitting process and have them be so sensitive to using my pronouns correctly and making sure to not talk about my body or what I was going to wear in a gendered way,” they said.

The musician and the professor wanted to embrace a gender-neutral wedding. Instead of having a traditional wedding party, Lambert and Hermansen enlisted “broomsbabes” and “bridesbabes” to stand by their side, the publication said. They also replaced a typical maid of honor or best man role with “captain” and “president.” “We thought it was really cute and funny,” Lambert shared. “We were trying to find the couples like us in bridal magazines, and I just didn’t see it.”

After sharing their first kiss, the newlyweds joined their guests for a barbecue with cornbread, potatoes, and vegan curry. They rounded off the spread with a slice of vanilla funfetti cake, and they washed it all down with mocktails, according to the magazine. “It’s important to us to be inclusive of other sober people,” Hermansen remarked.

On the dance floor, the newly married couple shared a first dance to “Misty” by Ella Fitzgerald, they told People. For the finishing touch, Lambert performed “Love Is Love” with her mom.

After meeting on a dating app in May of 2018, Lambert and Hermansen started dating. Three years later, they got engaged.
