Love Island‘s Laura Anderson has opened up about her relationship with Hollyoaks actor Gary Lucy.

In a new interview with OK! Anderson revealed that she grew up watching Lucy on Footballers’ Wives, a show the actor used to star in.

“My mum fancies him! And my friends are obsessed. One of them messaged me the other day and she’s like, ‘Can you believe we used to watch Footballers’ Wives and you’re now dating Gary Lucy, how does that feel?'” Anderson said.

“And I’m like, ‘Shut up!’ I don’t think about it like that. But then I was looking at him on a date and I was like, ‘It’s weird that I know your face. You’re like a celebrity.’ It’s like you would recognise them anywhere because you’ve just seen them so much.”

Anderson continued: “I was like, ‘It’s weird that I already know your face so much just from seeing pictures over time or whatever.’ I was like, ‘This is weird.’ I don’t think he really knew anything about me. He said he knew I was on Love Island and that’s about it.”

“He makes me feel comfortable and he makes me feel quite adored and protected, which is really nice. He’s a gentleman,” Anderson said of Lucy, who left Hollyoaks earlier this year.

In August, Anderson announced that she had split from former Another Level star Dane Bowers after five years together in an on-and-off relationship. She later opened up about why the couple decided to call it quits when she appeared on Celebs Go Dating.

“I’m quite fresh out of a relationship, to be honest, which I thought was my life partner. We were planning a lot together and it didn’t work out. I’m not really sure where I’m going wrong,” Anderson said.

“I think my most recent break-up was the biggest in my life because it was so serious. I thought that he was ‘the one.’ We were trying for a baby. It’s just like a massive thing.”

Love Island will return in early 2023 with new host Maya Jama. It airs on ITV2, and is available via catch-up on ITVX and BritBox.
