Roses are red, rumors are true.Iowa native Mercedes Northup, who grew up in Bloomfield, is officially set to appear on Season 27 of ABC dating competition “The Bachelor,” featuring leading man Zach Shallcross.
Northup, who now lives in Nashville, was listed online following a TikTok live cast announcement on the @bachelornationabc account Wednesday, emceed by the show’s host Jesse Palmer.
The Des Moines Register previously reported that the 24-year-old’s photograph and first name were listed in a since-deleted Sept. 23 announcement of 32 potential cast members who were slated to compete for Shallcross’s heart on the reality show’s official Facebook page and information from spoiler site Reality Steve.
Shallcross, who was a finalist on Rachel Recchia’s cast of the recent shared season of “The Bachelorette” alongside Gabby Windey, splits time between Texas and California and is an executive at a tech company.

The 24-year-old social media marketer’s online bio on bachelornation.com highlights her homegrown roots in the Hawkeye State. The Iowa State University alum’s favorite hobbies include showing pigs during summertime at the Iowa State Fair, driving around with car windows down listening to music, and ordering food in instead of cooking.
According to ABC, the small town girl works four jobs, is close with her mom, and is looking for love with a person she can bring home for Sunday night suppers.
Now, after two serious relationships, Northup is looking for love on Shallcross’ season of the hit dating show.

Iowans can tune in to see if Northup’s journey for love is hogwash or a hit during the Jan. 23 season premiere of “The Bachelor” on ABC at 7 p.m.
