Are you looking for love and maybe a move to the country? Well, RTÉ’s brand new dating show might be just what you need. Here’s everything you need to know about Love in the Country, and how to apply.
What is Love in the Country?
Love in the country is a brand new dating show which will air in 2023. The series will centre around six rural romantics all of whom are looking for love, but feel their locations make it more difficult to meet someone. Whether they are farmers, publicans or cafe owners, each of them is tied to where they live, and needs love to come to them.
Each hopeful has made a two-minute video profile, which gives a flavour of who they are, who they’re interested in, and where they live. They are inviting anyone who is interested in dating them to write them a letter. (Click here for more details).
From the letters, they’ll each choose a number of ‘daters’ to have a speed date with, and from these speed dates, they’ll invite their favourite three to spend a weekend with them and try out country living for themselves.
Where did the idea come from?
The series is based on an international format called Farmer Wants A Wife. We have re-jigged this format to have more of an Irish feel and expanded it to be about more than just male farmers looking for wives.
This series has both men and women from different backgrounds living and working in rural Ireland, who would like to find someone to share their lives with.
Who is presenting Love in the Country?
The presenter has not been announced yet, but rest assured it will be someone well clued into both country living, and finding love!
Who is taking part?
Rob is a pharmacist and farmer from West Cork. He’s time-poor but will make the time when the right person comes along!

What kind of people are you looking for?
We’re looking for anyone single and interested in finding out more watch the profile videos below and see if there’s someone you think you could hit it off with!
How do people apply?
The first step is to watch the dating profiles, which will give you a genuine flavour of each person, and what their lifestyle is like.
If you see someone who takes your fancy, click on the link and write a letter to the person telling them a little more about yourself, your interests, and why you’d be interested in dating them. Or if you’re feeling shy about the letter, but are interested in dating them, you can just leave your name and contact details and a member of the production team will be in touch to help you from there.
What will they have to do if selected to appear on the show?
If you are selected by the person who you have applied to date (a match!), you will be invited to go on a speed date with them in January in a Dublin location.
If you hit it off, you will then be invited to spend three days with them, along with two other daters, as you get to know them better and try out their lifestyle.
At the end of the three days, they and the person they have matched with can decide if they’d like to see each other again. If so, they will go on another date a few weeks later, in the hope that love blossoms!
Why should people apply?
First of all, taking part in the show promises to be lots of fun for anyone adventurous and outgoing. Secondly, the rural romantics are genuinely looking to meet someone who is open to living the rural life.
Since Covid, loads of people are working from home, or a mix between home and the office so moving for love seems much more doable – your job can go with you. If you are looking to meet someone, and open to the romantic notion of life in the countryside, then why not give it a go?!
