ROMANTIC rejection is brutal at the best of times, but when you’re a celebrity in the public eye it hits that much harder.
One time Love Island hunk Charlie Brake recently had to take a very public L after trying his luck with sports broadcaster Laura Woods on Twitter.
Arsenal fan Woods politely, but amusingly, declined Brake’s offer of a dinner date following her side’s 3-1 win over West Ham.
The former Sky Sports presenter let him down gently by saying: “I’m not hungry but thank you.”
Super rich Charlie responded to his rejection, and appeared to have taken it well.
He wrote on Twitter: “If you don’t buy a ticket you don’t win the raffle.”
Brake later joked: “Dinner anyone?”, followed by a magic wand emoji.
He’s not the only star who’s been served a slice of humble pie. We take a look at other notable high profile heartbreaks.
Katy Perry and Niall Horan
Katy Perry hurt One Direction star Niall Horan’s pride when he tried his luck with the American pop star.
Just before Niall shot to global fame in the boyband, he allegedly tried to flirt with X Factor guest judge Katy behind the scenes.
But the Hot and Cold singer, who is nine years Niall’s senior, wasn’t having any of it.
She told Nova FM: “I see [Niall] around all the time, he’s always trying to like get my number to, like, maybe flirt with me, but I’m like, ‘I could babysit you. I’m, like, your mom!'”
Justin Bieber and Jennifer Lawrence
Justin Bieber is happily married to wife Hailey, but long before they were an item he had the hots for Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence.
Even though he was one of the biggest music stars on the planet, it didn’t count for anything as far as sassy Jennifer was concerned.
Teen Justin told Capital FM that he found the actress “sexy” and “cute”, which eventually found its way to Jennifer’s ears.
When asked if the feeling was mutual, she told Watch What Happens Live: “I’m going to say a hard no, but thanks.”
Emma Watson and Tom Felton
Hormones were raging on the set of Harry Potter as its lead stars went through puberty while simultaneously becoming the biggest stars on the planet.
Hermione Granger actress Emma Watson had the hots for Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton, but the Slytherin villain didn’t feel the same.
Emma explained to Jonathan Ross: “Between the ages of 10 and 12 I had a really terrible crush on Tom Felton, to the extent that I would go into work in the morning and look down the numbers on the call sheet to see if he was going to be in. He was a few years older and he had a skateboard — and that just did it really. The thing is that he’d tell everyone, ‘I see her in a younger, sisterly way.’ It just broke my heart. It still does.”
Sophie Turner and James McVey
Sophie Turner is head over heels with husband Joe Jonas, but years ago another musician fancied her.
The Vamps’ James McVey was given a tough lesson in pursuing a woman by the Game of Thrones star.
After being on the receiving end of a playful insult on Twitter, Sophie responded to James: “Harsh words. Ps. Please stop texting me… It’s getting creepy and I’m sorry I’m not interested.”
James insisted it was a joke, but the pair’s short-lived rumoured romance didn’t go any further.
